The Stokke® Steps™ is a high chair solution originally launched in 2014. It is suitable to use for children up until they are approximately 10 years old. To be able to use this chair with children between 0-3, it would be required to use additional accessories, as the chair as a standalone is only suitable once the child is already 3 years old.
Depending on when any given Stokke® Steps™ has been produced, it may have its legs made of either Beech, Oak or Bamboo wood. The initial legs from 2014 were made of Beech wood, with Oak temporarily introduced as an additional premium option in 2016, until the Bamboo made its mark by becoming the only type of leg set with the relaunch in 2026. As the Stokke® Steps™ is a product which contains wood, it should only be used indoors to avoid damaging the product.
In order to use the Stokke® Steps™ with a newborn between 0-6 months, Stokke® previously used to sell accessories such as the:
- Stokke® Steps™ Bouncer
- Stokke® Steps™ Newborn Set
Both of these accessories could be attached directly to the chair, allowing to bring the child to the dinner table. Both products also came with a 5-point harness and were positioned at a 40-degree angle. The difference between the two products was that the Bouncer, launched in 2014, could be used either on the chair or as a standalone on the floor that could bounce, whereas the Newborn Set, which was launched in 2018, was the cheaper alternative and could only be used on the chair. Both of these accessories for newborns were discontinued in 2024 and are no longer available.
To use the Stokke® Steps™ with a baby between 6-36 months, a Baby Set would be required, which by default also comes with the Harness pre-attached. The Baby Set must go over the two circular ridges on the side of the chair and it will then essentially hover over the chair, which also effectively raises the seat height for the child.
The backrest has two positions that it can be slotted into, to ensure it can support the child sufficiently while they are still young and small, as well as when they are older and bigger. The Harness is attached to this backrest, whereas the crotch strap is attached to the base of the Baby Set. Releasing this 5-point Harness is quite simple, as it requires just the press of a button.
The Tray can be attached to the Baby Set, as there are two triggers underneath the Tray which allow attachment to the front rail of the Baby Set. The Tray cannot be used without the Baby Set. The purpose of the Tray is to ensure the child has an accessible area to eat from while seated within their Baby Set.
The Baby Set Cushion is an optional accessory to make the seating experience more comfortable for the child. This offers better padding and has holes to allow for the harness straps to come through, to still be able to keep the child safely seated.
An older version of the Stokke® Steps™ also had an additional optional accessory in the form of a cushion for the seat of the chair, which was to be used by children over 3 years of age that no longer needed the Baby Set. This cushion was phased out in 2024.
